About Kari

Kari Douma, professional photographer.

This blog was started for a 365 project in 2010 by Kari Douma, from Kari Douma Photography. Jayne Wirebaugh (studio manager for Kari Douma Photography worked on a 365 project in 2011, and now Kari is working on a project 52 in 2011. Here is a note from Kari....

Welcome to my Project 52... After completing a 365 project in 2010, I took a year off to relax and recuperate while my studio manager Jayne took over the project! After taking that year off, I realized that I missed a project, something to make me get out and challenge myself. I wasn't quite ready to commit to a 365 project again, but I wanted something that would challenge me artistically and photographically. So I decided on a project 52. One theme a week, and no minimum or maximum to the number of pictures that I would post for the week, maybe one, maybe ten. So, check back often, and join me on my year long photographic journey.

Feel free to join me, comment on the images, or ask questions. You can contact me here...

Week 13 Shallow Depth of Field

This week's project was shallow Depth of field. (I am a little behind with posting, this was from a couple weeks ago.)  Shallow Depth of field refers to the area that is in focus.... the depth of the amount in focus is small, leaving a blurry background and/or foreground.  There are several factors that go into this, these being the most common: aperture, focal length, and distance to subject.  Most photographers think of aperture right away, but I decided to use the other two factors to achieve shallow depth of field this time.

Week 12 - Signs of Spring

This week was unusually warm in Michigan!  It brought spring to the area.  It was also the first day of spring this week on the calendar.  So, what better topic to photograph than "signs of spring"?

I thought I would have lots of opportunity to take pictures of food this week, but at the end of the week I found I didn't get my camera out much!

Week 8 - Cemeteries

This week's topic was cemeteries.  It was actually kind of fun.  I had time to visit 4 different cemeteries on 2 different days.  It was very interesting looking at the different markers, and wondering about them.

Week 7 - Guess What?

I had fun with my project 52 this week!  The theme was "Guess what?"  I didn't plan on this, but I ended up using my macro lens for all of these.  I think the little details of things are sometimes hard to guess.  I am sure some of these will be easy, and some will be hard.  Enjoy!
